Lessons from Christina Aguilera and the NFL - Don't Hire for the Wrong Reasons

Don't use the NFL's hiring of Christina Aguilera to sing the “The Star-Spangled Banner” in the Superbowl as the model for hiring your next team member.  "There are thousands of singers in America, who, in terms of raw talent, could have outsung Ms. Aguilera, but let’s face it, talent was probably not the only, or even the primary, consideration in her selection," says consultant Richard Hadden of ContentedCows.

In terms of hiring employees, focus on factors that "predict job success," including "Do they 'fit' the organization’s culture, by virtue of temperament, nature, values, and character?"  For more on hiring for the right reasons, read Hadden's short blog post at Talent Matters.
