Good listeners are good influencers

Corporate clients benefit when you as in-house counsel possess the competency of influence, including the ability to move your clients toward a more risk-appropriate zone.  Your inclination (or not) to listen to others has an impact on your ability to influence them.  According to noted leadership author John Maxwell:  “If you can learn to understand people – how they think, what they feel, what inspires them, how they’re likely to act and react in a given situation – then you can motivate and influence them in a positive way.”  Maxwell’s short post on this subject is available at the following link:  Understanding people makes the difference.
